Digipak picture

Most of the digipaks I looked at included a picture of the artist, which was generally on the front cover of the digipak. I wanted to challenge this and decided to include a picture of graffiti I had taken from UpFest in the summer. I edited this picture to block some of the colour out of some parts of it and some to leave with colour. I made sure all of the pictures were a similar colour so I altered the picture slightly to have a soft red filter.

Leading character

There is not a leading character in my narrative. Music videos tend to have a leading character but I kept it neutral to balance it out, making the lyrics relevant to both of them – talking about love and wanting to be next to each other. Also wanted both genders to be equal because in other pop artists music videos, such as Chris Brown’s music video for ‘Loyal’ views women as a sex object and are there for the men and the main characters are the men.

In Drake’s video, the women are all dressed in little dresses and dancing around for the men in the club. The main woman is seen as a possession because she is held by Mavado and surrounded by his gang. I wanted to challenge the women being objectified. Ellie wore jeans and a coat – all covered up. Thought this was important to not objectify woman as usual pop artists do because it isn’t very suitable for the potential audience and both genders should be represented as equal.

Music video representation

When we experimented our narrative actor lip-syncing, we had noticed he wasn’t confident doing the lip syncing so it was obvious that he should just be kept to the narrative. The reason for challenging this and not have Will as the actor for the narrative was mainly because it suited our narrative actor.
